The hotel clerk can sense they're really broke, but he charges them the going per-person rate of $10 each. So Mom, Dad, and their kid each pay $10 for the room, for a total of $30. The hotel clerk starts feeling a bit bad that he overcharged them and decides to give them a $5.00 refund. He calls the bell boy over and says give this $5.00 to that nice couple and their kid in room 101. The bell boy takes the $5.00 and thinks to himself, $5.00 between 3 people is hard to split up. He keeps $2.00 for himself and gives the family in room 101 a $3.00 refund. Therefore, Mom, Dad, and Junior now each paid $9.00 for the room. 3 x $9.00 = $27.00. The bell boy kept $2.00, for a total of $29.00. What happend to the other dollar?A poor family of 3 rents a cheap hotel room while visiting the big city. . .?
it's a play with words
each man paid $10.00 for the dinner, to divide the cost evenly at $30 dollars.
When the waiter realized the cost was $25, this would mean that to divide the dinner cost evenly, each man would pay $8.33
$8.33 X 3 = 24.99 (the cost of the dinner)
People assume that because each man gets a dollar back that the dinner cost them $9.00.
$9 x 3 = $27 + $2 to the waiter = $ 29 (Missing a dollar)
If you take the $24.99 that the dinner cost, plus the $5.00 that the waiter overcharged it equals $29.99. which means only a penny is missing due to rounding off.A poor family of 3 rents a cheap hotel room while visiting the big city. . .?
they paid 30 and got 5 back that makes 25 but the bell boy takes 2 so thats 27 and there's 3 left, 1 for each couple. 27 + 3 = 30.
?
Actually its just another way of counting the amount. Because if you calculate the $3 + $2 taken by the bell boy plus the $25 you will get the $30 back. The family did not pay $9.00 each. The manager return them $5 dollars.
It's there, if i could remember it had to do something about doing the math backwards. I remember hearing the answer like over a year ago so it's kinda foggy sorry i couldn't help anymore then this.
The was posted the other day...
It got lost in your bad math. Each one of 3 people paid $10, 3 x $10 = $30. They then each got a dollar back, 3 X $1 = $3, meaning each person paid $9, 3 x $9 = $27 + $3 = $30.
What the manager should have done is changed each man $8.34 (because you always round up with money), Then given the bell hop 3 sets of $1.66 for the 3 men.
But that's OK the manager was fired the next day for over changing for the room anyway.
something to do with the fact that they haven't actually paid $9 each for their rooms, they've actually paid $8.33 each because they've been given a $5 refund. $8.33 x 3 = $25 plus the $3 they're refunded plus the $2 for the bell boy is $30. Damn straight.
ive heard this one before i know it. shoot. how does it go. ummm i forgot. well well this is very interesting.
