Best way to go about finding cheap hotel rooms?

I'm trying to find a hotel location near where I live for my mom to stay. I've never stayed at a hotel for more than a day or two and since she'll be staying a week and won't stay at my house, I don't really know what to look for. Of course, I don't want to find her something expensive, but is the best way to go about this online? Or calling around to see what places prices are? I've looked on Hotwire and it's just giving me a ton of over-priced places, so I'm not sure how great looking through travel sites would be for me.Best way to go about finding cheap hotel rooms?
there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.Best way to go about finding cheap hotel rooms?
check out trip advisor

just enter your city and state and it will give you info on hotels. there are even reviews of the hotels.
If you want something local, look at the yellow pages or google local and then call for rates. In this economy most places will negotiate. Ask for any discount you can get...AAA, AARP (for your mom), student discount, anything.

If looking for a week long rental, try a condo or vacation home from places like http://www.abetterstay.com where your mom will have more space and more comforts like home. A week is a long time to camp out at a hotel.

Good luck.
Use http://www.kayak.com/ - they search thru lots of different online hotel booking sites to show you the absolute lowest price.
