Any one know the best cheapest hotel to stay at in La Vegas?

About 8 of us want to go in October 2007 but we are all on a budget. We want the best hotel with the lowest rates, that is close to the strip.. Even if you know of a good Travel agent would be helpful, and not one of those online guys..ThanksAny one know the best cheapest hotel to stay at in La Vegas?
October is not ';generally'; one of the better times to go to LV for great room rates.

You're doing the right thing by planning ahead. Use the online travel sites to compare rates with the hotel web sites, then book through the hotel. Many LV hotels will price match the best online rate you can find for their hotel.

You will save a lot of money by going Sunday through Thursday instead of Friday/Saturday.

If you could be flexible with your dates and go a little earlier there are some great rates for September 3rd to the 6th(4 nights). Orleans $35 per night, etc

I went on an information seeking trip to Vegas in 2000 and found a place that was a real deal called Budget Suites. Goto www.budgetsuites.com and you get to rent a place for a week for the same price you'd pay at a hotel. They're like little condos! Everything you'd expect from apartment living.

There is a short-term apartment complex not too far from the strip called Harbor Island. It isn't hilton, but it is not too bad either. They have furnished studio apartments that you can rent either by the week or by the month. It definitely does not compare to staying at one of the hotels at the casions, but you can save a lot of money buy cooking breakfast, and maybe even lunch at the apartment. They accept credit card payments, but there is no phone in the apartment. If you are on a tight budget, it can save you some money. Prices are a little below $200 per week. You'll need a car while you are there, so if you do not plan on renting a car during your trip, then you will need to stay somewhere along the strip. Parking is free at most of the casinos.
One of the cheapest ways to do LV is to stay downtown not on the Strip. My husband and I have stayed at the Golden Gate (be sure and ask for a room NOT on Fremont) and the Lady Luck (now closed)... the Hotel California appears to be a worthy successor. We like downtown because it's walkable, smaller in scale, and more like the old Las Vegas we remember. The Fremont Experience is fun and there's usually live entertainment in the street on the weekends. Good luck!
We went to see family, so being right on the strip wasn't important. We stayed at Terrible's Casino. It was cheap, but pretty decent! And they had a good buffet. It was maybe a mile off the strip, easy walking distance.
You can do the following for under $50 a night (usually cheaper):

The Orleans

Circus Circus

Tropicana

The Stratosphere

and a dozen others. Of those I would pick the tropicana or the stratosphere.

If you can go to about $80 a night go for the Excalibur.
Well, make your hotel reservations under a fake name is still the most inexpensive way to go about it. If I remember right; I stayed at Hard Rock Hotel %26amp; Casino last time I was there. We had two kingsize beds in the room, so if your on a low bugdet getting 2 rooms there could work?

Oh, please check out the link below for some tips from the locals :)
The best buys would be to stay off the strip, on the ';old strip'; Freemont Street. The 4 Queens hotel is a good deal. My wife and I just stayed there and the rooms a smallish, but clean, newly renovated (a couple years ago), and best of all, not that expensive. It is a short drive/ride to the ';new strip';, and the Freemont Experience light show is pretty cool.

Have fun
