Try the Suk11 hostel in the Syukumvit area. It is a hostel, but much like a hotel room. You can have a room with or without a bath for $12 to $15. Nice people, breakfast included and just a three minute walk to the skytrain. I stay there when I go to Bangkok. They will also store your bags while you travel to other parts of SEA.

There's a new Resort (Queen's Garden Resort) just five minutes from Suvarnabhumi Airport (bangkok); clean, friendly and reasonable priced - been there two times, much cheaper than the Novotel Suvarnabhumi which cost me 4,000 Bt for 4 hours!!!
