Is there any cheap hotels in Chicago?

I would like to surprise my boyfriend on his birthday with a mini trip to Chicago. I want to find a hotel for as cheap as I can. And also want to know if you have to have a credit card or can I pay cash?Is there any cheap hotels in Chicago?
Are you looking for downtown Chicago, or one of the suburbs. If you're willing to stay further away it tends to be cheaper- you can find a hotel near a metra station and take that downtown.





If you want to stay downtown, there is a Days Inn, Red Roof, Best Western, and Travel Lodge.





You're best bet is to check out a search site such as hotels.com or priceline to get a deal. Many hotels have special offers to entice people in this current economy.Is there any cheap hotels in Chicago?
If you're driving my recommendation would be Best Western River North. It is the only hotel in the city that has free parking which will save you about $40/night. Every other hotel in the city charged for parking.





Best Western River North isn't a 4 star hotel, but it's clean and it's in the city. Just make your reservations through the hotel and not Expedia, Travelocity, etc. or else you could get stiffed with a small bed or crappy view.





I made reservations online, so I charged it to my credit card in advance. If you call and make reservations through the hotel, however, you may be allowed to use cash. I'm not sure about that policy, though.

You're looking at $100-120+ for Downtown.


I stop at Red Roof Inn frequently which is central for all shopping + Navy Pier is only 10-15 minute walk - and I feel safe walking around that area even late at night.

don't you know that the taxes here are the HIGHEST..and i mean HIGHEST in the country??? SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!





and of course you can pay cash or credit, but expect to pay ALOT of money for something that isn't worth alot.
I highly recommend using priceline.com and a strategy to maximize your rebids to get a 4 or 5 star hotel at sometimes up to 50% off. Here are the details:
